What do you do to build your list using social networking? Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, LinkedIn, etc? Do you use a double opt-in list? What about a blog? I love using my blog, AndyNathan.net to build my list.

Hello Andy! I have been taught that by using a double Opt in it cuts down the amount of people who actually follow through and sign up by 40%! All the Best! Dale Werner

Dale,
Good point! That is a great litmus test to screen out the people who should never have bothered you in the first place. If they can not check their email they will more then likely never buy. Good time saving point!

I've found that using double opt in leads that I can greatly reduce my marketing budget I've cold called 1,000's of leads and the double opt in variety offer the highest ROI. As far as using social media to generate leads, I'm on the fence, I have spoken to several people who say they are tired of all these "pyramid companies" trying to sell them something on their facebook and myspace pages. You can see a lot of push in the industry toward social networking sites, so as you can imagine with 60 million of us around the world people can really get annoyed.

Andrew,
Social Networking is very similar to a double opt-in list, except instead of a double opt-in, you get to have a triple or opt-in. It has nothing to do with marketing, and everything to do with building professional relationships. The world will never not need more of that.

I have to agree with Andrew's last point. The world will never need fewer relationships. If people get annoyed with you on social media platforms, then you are using them all wrong.

Bill-That is exactly how I show people to use social networking! They need to make sure they are connecting with people appropriately! Otherwise, what is the point? Spammers always get the can!

I know this because I was one of those people spamming all over Facebook and other sites when I first started. I will be forever grateful to a Facebook friend who helped to show me the error of my ways.

Another Note regarding the Double Opt-in question. Not only is that the only way I ask for Opt-ins, I ask for more info, (Phone and address) so we can Immediately enter into a personal dialog. I am not a Volume Marketer, My services and Products will only please small numbers of serious purchasers.

Chuck,
That is interesting how you ask for a phone number and address. I generally find that even with a small demographic, you want the email signup to be a no-brainer and ask for the least amount of information possible, so people get on your list of prospects. That is interesting that your clients come to you even with the additional info.
